  • 1/4 cup apple butter
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 2/3 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • Cream cheese for frosting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by sautéing diced apples with water and sugar until tender. Stir in apple butter and spices; let cool.
  2. Make the dough by combining water, milk, cream, and Tangzhong until smooth. Gradually add bread flour, sugar, yeast, and salt; knead until soft.
  3. Allow the dough to rise covered in a warm place until doubled (about 90 minutes).
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread filling evenly, roll tightly into a cylinder, and cut into individual rolls.
  5. Place in a greased baking pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare frosting by mixing cream cheese with powdered sugar and heavy cream; frost cooled rolls.
