  • 100 g heavy cream

  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground all spice
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 100 g dark brown sugar
  • 200 g apples (grated)
  • 110 g vegetable oil (room temperature)
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 140 g sour cream (14-18% room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100 g butter (room temperature)
  • 165 g powdered sugar
  • 23 tsp caramel
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel sauce by heating sugar and water until golden brown, then add butter and cream; let cool.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugars, grated apples, oil, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients gently; add half of the cooled caramel sauce.
  5. Pour batter into a greased cake pan and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 45 minutes.
  6. Make the buttercream by beating butter with powdered sugar; mix in caramel and vanilla.
  7. Frost the cooled cake with buttercream; drizzle with extra caramel if desired.
