Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Then add 2 cups of flour along with salt. Mix until combined before slowly adding the remaining flour.
  3. Knead until you have soft, slightly sticky dough. Add a few drops of blue food coloring and knead until evenly distributed.
  4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 to 1½ hours until doubled in size.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth. Fold in crushed chocolate cookies and mini chocolate chips.
  6. Roll out your blue dough into a rectangle measuring about 14×9 inches. Spread the filling evenly over the surface and roll it up tightly from one long side. Cut into 12 even rolls.
  7. Place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30 to 45 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While the rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese and softened butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk and mix until creamy.
  9. Once the cinnamon rolls come out warm from the oven, drizzle the icing over top and sprinkle with crushed chocolate cookies and extra mini chocolate chips if desired.
