  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, divided
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, mix together almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond mixture down the center third of the puff pastry. Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry and fold them over the filling in a braided manner.
  5. Brush the top with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.
