  • 6 cups apples (peeled and sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with one layer of crust.
  3. In a bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the lined pie plate and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second pastry crust and cover the filling; seal edges well.
  6. Cut slits in the top crust for ventilation and brush with milk.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 375°F (190°C) and bake an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow cooling before slicing.
