Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients: soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until softened. Season with salt and pepper; set aside.
  3. Increase the heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the same skillet. Stir-fry the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the sauce ingredients: soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this mixture over the beef, letting it simmer until thickened.
  5. Return the sautéed onions to the skillet and combine well. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
